Traced from the textbook to 2X2 inch thumbnail squares. Around thirty were created, these three were my final design selections:

It was a hot, hot, hot birthday at my house on Saturday but I appreciated everyone who came & had dinner and cobbler with us. Thanks to everyone! No, I don't feel like I'm getting old. Maybe on the surface in places - I certainly have enough grey chest hair already. I don't carry much negative baggage about aging so its all good. With gift cards I got a Swiss Army brand backpack with a padded laptop sleeve inside. Finally I can set my backpack down without worrying about banging up my computer. I was very careful with the old bag but I surely would have damaged my Mac eventually and that's not an easy thing to replace. Plus I would be sad.
Pete also gave me a new PS2 slim, which we learned doesn't work with SOME wireless guitars. My guitar worked on the old PS2, but not this one. Fortunately we have two guitars and the other one still works. I was able to get back to Guitar Hero breaks which I appreciate when homework is munching away at my poor brain. I'm also enjoying a new Superman baseball cap and a new Transformer for the collection - Decepticon Rampage. He's an evil monster disguised as a bulldozer. His treads turn into whips!
I'm coming up on the final week of the Summer term and my classes are wrapping up:
- In writing, I have chosen to write a research essay on the animated film "The Thief and the Cobbler" which I am very excited about now that the first draft has been looked at by a few peers. It will be the focus of my work for the next week and is already a strong paper.
- In Math (beginning algebra) I have one more lecture/homework class tomorrow, then a final on Thursday. I should pass with an A, which is unheard of for me in math.
- In drawing, I have explored mediums of graphite, ink, and colored pencil, and methods like working with shadow, negative space, finding perspective, creating space/depth. The final for drawing will be a review of our sketchbook portfolios and homework drawing assignments.
In the fall I will move away from basic prerequisites and into the graphic design program. Bring it on.

Drawing Homework
Here's some fun... But you should know this is my first drawing class since elementary school. My assignment is to draw some landscapes, keeping 'space' in mind. This is a practice to improve perspective, line weight, scale, modeling if possible. I was asked to do several sketchbook-sized drawings, then choose one of them and redraw it on a poster-sized sheet of paper. Here are photos of the actual settings and my drawings. The photos are as close to my point of view when drawing as I could get them. We were to capture these scenes with 'space' using a paper cutout viewfinder, staying within the borders of the framed area. The first scene is the one I've chosen to draw large. I'm not finished with it yet.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION...
ROYAL CROWN (RC) RATINGS: - As in RC Cola, an old favorite of mine.
5 Royal Crowns - THE BEST, worth endless refills
4 Royal Crowns - VERY GOOD, still worth refills...
3 Royal Crowns - GOOD, a perfect single serving...
2 Royal Crowns - OK FOR SOME, but may not be sweet and fizzy to everyone
1 Royal Crown - NOT GOOD, leaving an icky aluminum taste, which you can't un-taste
